Great all-purpose head torch - sturdily made with USB charger built in
Primarily it was purchased for when walking the dogs. It's still pitch black when we head out and the walk involves sheltered paths with no lighting. This tool increases my confidence and ensures I spot where my dogs have been to the toilet!I did feel a little silly initially when wearing it out but as I've seen another dog walker who I regular pass has recently bought their own head torch it proves just how useful it is.I didn't realise it'll be so invaluable at home too. It's used for hands free DIY tasks in poor lighting. I even used it when cleaning the inside of the oven! It's also ideal to have around in case of power cut.You get the usual quality you expect from Sofirn - head torch sturdily made from a solid chunk of aluminium. The accessories also have the usual Sofirn quality - you're under no doubt where the money has gone.Compact and light. This is by far the best budget headlamp of the many I have had before. No wires to snag or break here.Love the fact that you can quickly select what brightness you want which is great when I'm walking the dog.Having its own USB charger built in is a huge advantage, without making it heavy or bulky. The elastic strap holds the torch firmly and comfortably and looks as though it will last a good long time. The battery lasts a good while and the head torch is rainproof (tested). There are three modes: low, medium and high. No (annoying) flashing modes. Very conveniently it always starts on the last setting you used.Great light for the price. High beam is bright enough for proper off road dogs walking. Mid beam bright enough for unlit country lanes. The medium mode is the one I use the majority of the time. The low is sufficient to walk around the house without tripping over and does provide enough light for detailed work.If you're in the market for a high quality head torch this is the one to own. Thus far extremely pleased although if I find anything detrimental I will update my post.

Excellent Value for money.
I purchased this torch after seeing other positive reviews and my initial thoughts are that it is an excellent bit of kit.BRIGHTNESSI cannot tell for certain if the reported 1200 Lumens is accurate, however it seems to hold up against my Olight S2R Baton 2 (1150 lumens). The light is more flooded than the Olight and a warmer orange colour, but certainly illuminates well. The olight does seem slightly brighter on turbo, however that might just be the whiteness of the light making things seem brighter. The Sofirn is half the price though.FEATURES:Fairly standard features you would expect to see these days. It has a range of brightnesses: low (5lm), medium (90lm), high (450lm) and Turbo (1200lm) controlled from a single button. This button is featured on the top and works perfectly for the right angled nature of the emitter. You'll also find a changable body section so it can be used with a smaller battery, making the torch signifcantly more compact if desired. It also has a strong magnetic tail cap, which is more powerful than any of my olights.... which is up to you to decide if this is a good or bad thing. Probably best not to keep it next to your credit cards though.WEIGHTThe SP40 is a comfirtable weight in hand or when attached to a pack. Although its not 'heavy' as such, it has a an almost reasuring heft to it. I do think if I was to use it as a head torch regualrly I would probably get the optional 18350 battery so I could use the smaller body section and reduce weight on the head as that might become tiresome if worn for extended periods. For the most part during my testing it was either in hand or in my front strap of my bag, and it was perfectly weighted for that.BUILD QUALITYThe overall quality of the torch is excellent. It feels sturdy and well put together and although I have not tested the waterproofness (why put things in danger if you don't have too!) I see no reason to think it would fail. The light even comes with a couple of replacement O-rings should they need swapping out.. which I will almost certainly lose before they are needed, but it was a nice thought. The clip is stiff and sturdy, but has the feel of a budget clip (when compared to the machining involved with an olight for example), however it certainly seems strong so I am probably just nitpicking. The headband is comfortable and jas a good amount of adjustment to it, although if you have a big head you might find it gets a little tight for extended use.PACKAGINGThe torch came in very basic, no-nonsense brown packaging with very minimal labeling, branding or any identification. Clearly an area where Sofirn had cut corners in order to keep costs down. This was absoloutely no problem for me as I tend not to keep boxes and its the torch that I was after, but may raise an issue for a collector or if it is given as a gift.OVERALL:I'm really pleased. I have only had it a few days so can't really comment on battery life and general durability yet, but first impessions are overwhelmingly positive. Sofirn seem to be another up and coming chinese manufacturer of torches who are producing great quaity equipment at very competative prices. I would not be surprised to see Sofirn rivalling Lumintop and possible Olight in coming years.
