Not metal
I have been looking for ages for a diary/journal with a beautiful metal cover. Unfortunately this is not it. The silver filigree is pretty but just paper, and the blue background is nothing like as 3D as it appears in the photo. There is an interesting passage at the back of the book about the history of filigree together with an expanding pocket for receipts, cards and what not. The textblock edge has a pretty pattern on it, I have always liked this in books. The metal or metallised clasp gives a nice touch, and the paper has a sepia antiqued effect as does the cover. Disappointingly it is lined on every page, I was hoping for alternate plain and lined pages for sketching with text. The A5-ish size is good and the book quite sturdy and heavy, but even the trompe l'oeil hinges on the spine do not make up for the fact that the book does not have the real metal cover I wanted. Given the high price, I would have expected this to be metal, not just paper. It is a German product, so I expect it to wear well and it appears to have properly bound pages. But the description could be clearer.

You can’t tell this book from the photo of its cover...
Hmmm.The photo shows a heavily embossed, beautiful electric blue, almost real metal filigree with gorgeous patterned page edges.The actual book? Not very heavily embossed at all, dull page-edging colours and a pretty dull blue background.Could be gorgeous, but poorly produced. And WAY Overpriced.
