Re-live Prince
I added this to my collection of great live performances, and get to enjoy the Live experiences that will never be captured again β¦in my own living room on the projector screen with the soundbar cranked up. Prince was a showman and Sign of the Times, one of his big albums, and bigger concerts at the top of his game.

Blu-Ray player doesn't like this disc
[EDIT - this review was for the 1 disc Blu-Ray (VivaVision release 9-337369-00337) but Amazon have thoughtlessly lumped all reviews together, so this review doesn't apply for any others like the 4 disc Mediabook release, etc.)Sorry to say this.5 stars obviously for Prince, his music, his performance, this album, this concert show, etc. all of which I love. Amazing!1 star for this poor quality Blu-Ray release. The Blu-ray disc totally refuses to play or be recognised by my Panasonic DMP-BD35 Blu-Ray player.UK spec machine, and I purchased this Blu-Ray on Amazon UK "wmdservices (fulfilled by Amazon)" with no indication / warning / labelling this it wasn't a UK region disc. I did get it to play on my Sony PS4 though (also UK spec machine) but still not on stand-alone Blu-Ray player.Watching the footage, first impressions, I though it looked rather more grainy and noisy in places than I was expecting, with low contrast and weak colour saturation. But then again, a lot of it was filmed under dark stage / low lighting conditions. I still have Sign O' The Times on VHS tape from years ago, and I compared the two side-by-side switching between two HDMI inputs after getting them both playing roughly in sync. The VHS is obviously cropped 4:3 compared to the 16:9 Blu-Ray which still doesn't quite reach the full width of the 1:85 aspect ratio theatrical release. The VHS tape looks much darker dimly-lit noir style show overall with more black shadows everywhere, so dark you tend to ignore any background noise grain, or just assume it's your VHS noise rather than the original film source. I think now they've boosted the brightness / gamma curve for this Blu-Ray re-master so you get to see more details visible even in the shadowy stage areas, and ambient colour spotlights through smoke machine which looks better overall from typical TV viewing distance, but it now really shows up the raw source film noise grain if you look closely, which you're not accustomed to seeing from most modern 1080p Blu-Ray movies. While not technically flawless, the Blu-Ray is probably a best-compromise picture quality for this concert, and certainly looks far better than the VHS. It is lacking in the way of special features or documentaries, etc. although there are many to be found on YouTube.I'm a huge Prince fan, and saw Prince perform live three times, and I've also seen Sheena Easton live too. I'm glad this wonderful film is finally available on Blu-Ray.

Prince at his Best
This is without any shadow of a doubt the best performance from one of the world's greatest performers. Prince has made a few suspect incursions into the world of film in his time but this is where he belongs: on a stage making music. There are a few set pieces that are truly inspired including the medley of Forever In My Life/ It and the room-shaking Housequake but there are also a few Over-The-Top montages that the Pint-Sized Purple One is prone to (but you gotta love him for those too).Other highlights include the formidable I Could Never Take The Place of Your Man; You Got The Look; If I Was Your Girlfriend; a cool cover of Charlie Parker "Nowβs the Time" and a swift rendition of his classic Little Red Corvette.Arguably his best album, already stormingly great on vinyl have a new life breathed into them.Magic.Go buy it.Now.Well go on then.

Definitely a Prince fan must have
Really, really like this collection. So many of the music videos I'd not seen and though the quality is from "yester year"- it is definitely a must have for any Prince fan who wants to marvel at the showmanship the Prince of all that is good brought to music.

Lives up to the title "Greatest Concert Film"
It is more or less accepted that the "Sign O The Times" album represented the pinnacle of Prince's career, with its blend of songs and music styles. The level of creativity it reached has yet to be met by the diminutive one.On its original (cinematic and video) release this film was more or less declared to be the "Greatest Concert Film" ever made. And so it is. Prince and his 1987 entourage whiz, slide, jump, bounce and sleaze around the stage during the 14 songs covered. There was a new energy at work in Prince's live shows at this point, having recently ditched his Revolution band the year before. For fans new sidekicks and cohorts were introduced, with Shelia E now on drums, Boni Boyer on keyboards and supporting vocals and the frenetic Cat (Glover) providing enough bump and grind for everyone. So its a treat to realise that with this DVD release the sound and picture have been brought right up to current day standards. This is no small feat given the age of the material. The sound is fantastic, mixed into Dolby Digital 5.1 format, which will give your surrounds and sub woofer a good work out.Essential for Prince fans.Perhaps someone will see fit to do a similar job on the following years Lovesexy Live concerts?

Great format for a special film
I still managed to get this at a decent price compared to other Amazon outlets. It took a while to receive it. But I was told in advance. I am very happy with it.
