Size:45/64"  |  Unit Count:1 The Drillco 1000E series reduced-shank drill bit is made from high-speed steel with a black oxide finish on the flutes and has a 118-degree conventional point for drilling low- and medium-tensile strength metals. The reduced shank drill bit, also called a Silver and Deming drill bit, has a shank that is smaller in diameter than its shaft, permitting drilling with a 1/2" drill chuck. High-speed steel (HSS) provides hardness for wear resistance, and the black oxide finish on the flutes reduces wear while promoting chip and coolant flow. The round shank with flats ground onto three sides reduces slippage of the bit when used in drill chucks. The drill bit conforms to American National Standards Institute (ANSI) specifications.Drill bits are cutting tools used to make holes in a range of materials using machines such as handheld portable drills, machining centers, and lathes. Drill bits come in a variety of lengths and types, the most common of which is the twist drill bit. The round, twisted shaft of the twist drill bit typically has two cutting edges and flutes. The helical twist of the flutes brings chips up and away from the cutting edges and allows for coolant to reach the cutting edges. Jobber length twist drill bits, the most common length of twist drill bit, offer a good compromise of length and reach for the widest range of materials and applications. Mechanic's length twist drill bits (also called maintenance length) are a little shorter than jobber length and less prone to deflection when drilling. Short length twist drill bits (also called stub or screw-machine length) are the shortest and stiffest twist drill bits, helping to reduce the chance of deflection or breakage when drilling. Reduced shank twist drill bits (also called Silver and Deming drill bits) have a shank that is smaller in diameter than its shaft, permitting drilling machines with a 1/4", 1/2", or 3/4" drill chuck to create large holes. Long length twist drill bits (also called taper length) are a little longer than jobber length, allowing for deeper holes and longer reach. Extra-long length twist drill bits (also called extension) are longer than long length twist drill bits for greater reach or for drilling deeper holes.Drillco manufactures cutting tools such as drill bits, reamers, taps, dies, annular cutters, end mills, and burs. The company, founded in 1978, is headquartered in Baton Rouge, LA.

Inacurate, poorly ground drill
Short story: Uneven grind, only cuts on one flute, hole diameter was .640", not near the .625 aim. This will create a lot of extra work and cost.Full Story: I needed a hole to hold a .625 (5/8) part a project. I'd step drilled out to 1/2", and now needed to finish to final diameter. The 5/8 drills I had on hand were from yard sales, and had rough shanks, so I decided to purchase a new drill. I ordered this drill and it arrived promptly and well packaged. The drilling was done in a milling machine, holding the drill in a collet to minimize runout. I started drilling and only one spiral was cutting. Stupidly, I continued on. The diameter of the hole when complete was .640", well away from the stated size. I'd expect a little bit over, as Machinery's Handbook lists a mean oversize of .005", with a range of .003" to .008" for drills in this range, but .015" over is almost twice their maximum. It's hard to measure the flutes of the drill, but it appears to be ground about.015" off center. The drilling was done in a milling machine, holding the drill in a collet to minimize runout. From Machinery's "An inaccurately ground twist drill will produce holes that are excessively oversize." Well, that's what I got.Two lessons learned.

Yup, It's Junk
Dulls quickly in mild steel. It doesn't appear to be properly heat treated. It may be okay for aluminum, brass and lead. But even with mild steel it dulls almost immediately. Save your money, time and effort.

Stayed sharp
Delivered on time, sharp, and worked beautifully. Stayed sharp after more than a dozen holes in 3/4" steel.

Inexpensive drill that works on a variety of materials
Moderately priced drill that works on all but very hard surfaces.

would not buy again
They would not drill steel hardly at all, waste of money.
