Boom Arm is used in studio and location photography to suspend light above the subject or scene you wish to capture. Combine with your choice of lighting, softboxes or umbrella's, will be strong enough to hold most types of lights but we don't recommend using the arm to support more than 1.5kg. The boom arm is fitted with a 5/8" spigot. Please Note The boom arm can actually be extended to nearly 140cm but we do not recommend you do this as their is not much overlap between the 2 segments which will cause stress on the lock nut between the 2 segments, instead move it back about 5cm. 6 MONTH WARRANTY

Very useful bit of gear, does the job
I have used this with an 80 x120 softbox mounted parallel to to floor and this has not crept or moved. This was not with the boom arm fully extended as the soft box in question was quite heavy with the flash attached. But I have attached a smaller 60x60 softbox and I have had no problem with boom fully extended. As another person has mentioned mount the counter weight bag holding pin upwards, as the bag can jump off if mounted downwards, if you drop your light stand section down too quickly, as I have done. And use ziploc bags filled with rice to act as counter weights (2kg min) with big softboxes.Overall a good and well priced product, but why 4 stars. I found unlocking the boom arm nut, to change angle position, a bit awkward sometimes, especially with a heavyish softbox and the finish of the both locking nuts, to be not as good as my reflector holder boom locking nut. (and basically they are all made in the same factory, just differently branded)BUT it is a very useful bit of gear and I am glad that I bought it. (Supplier was excellent as well)

i felt like I needed 3 hands
I have to say I think this is somewhat overpriced when compared to a lot of light stands on here and it wasn't exactly "plug and play" either. Basic quality control required!I found his very awkward at first, the problem was obvious, you can't adjust one side without the other side coming loose, i felt like I needed 3 hands!!! Anyway, I've solved the problem, a drop of lock-tite on the nut made the clamp function as 2 separate sides (no more "it all falls apart if you try to adjust it"). I also had to fix the clamp on the extender - the lock screw wasn't tight enough on the outer post so the extension rotated even when the thumb screw was tightened.Such a shame that I had to put it right, I'd have given it 5 stars in it's current configuration, but the slap dash way it had been assembled let it down.

For what it's designed for it's great, but make sure the lighting you want to use with this does not exceed 2KG, otherwise it will be quite wobbly and has fallen on me multiple times due to my own error of not reading the supported weight. The clamp broke too, but I think this is related to using too heavy equipment. It's great for beauty dishes though which are much lighter than big octogon softboxes with strobes.

Just the job!
Does the job and seems pretty good quality (mostly plastic) so far. Comes with clamp, extending boom arm and weight bag.I attach it onto a heavy duty light stand to hold a lastolite tri reflector kit (saves on having to use another light stand) with an articulating bracket and it does the job really well. The clamp requires two handed operation.Prompt delivery (came quicker than Amazon stated)

Very well made lighting accessory.
This is a really useful setup and I use it on my beauty dish. It works as it should and just as well as more expensive ones at that.It locks efficiently and balances well except at the extreme length although it has not caused any issues so far. For the money it is excellent. So 5 stars from me.

Just what i needed at a reasonable price
Bought this to go with my lighting kit that I also bought from amazon. Overall good build quality and very leight weight. Would definitely recommend getting a heavy duty light stand to hold it however. Word of warning, always use counter weights (counter weight bag included, but does not come with actual weights) and I would not recommend exceeding 1.5 kg with the boom fully extended. Would definitely recommend this to a friend.

Not as good as I hoped
I bought this as a cheaper alternative to a full arm and stand and I am disappointed as it bows and I feel it doesn’t support the weight of my light and box.Which is a shame as I feel it would have been a good product

An excellent bit of kit
An excellent bit of kit. Nicely made and very versatile. The counter balance bag takes my small dumbbell weights just as I'd hoped and it connects up to all my existing light stands. Very pleased with this item.
