Fanny Crosby: Queen of Gospel Songs (Potter's Wheel Books)

Beautiful true story
Fanny Crosby was blind from infancy, but that didn’t keep her from being happy and eager to learn. With the Godly influence of her grandmother and mother, she learned what was really worthwhile in life. She moved to a school for the blind in New York. They were amazed at her memory. She had the first 5 books of the Old Testament memorized as well as the 4 Gospels, Proverbs, much of Psalms and more. She could play the piano, harp and guitar. She was 35 before she wrote her first hymn. When she died just short of being 95, she had written over 8000 hymns. Many are still sung today in churches. She loved to work with the poor and needy. She gave them Hope in her “Dear Lord Jesus Christ”.

This book was well named. Fannie Crosby; Queen of Gospel Songs!!! She was a woman of great bravery, high expectations when she
I actually chose this rating of 5 stars, because it deserves this and even more than that. This rating needs to go even higher, I think! I do definitely would recommend this book to anyone who would appreciate not just another story, but the person behind the words of the story that's being portrayed. One thing that I love about this autobiography is that I can relate to some degree with Fannie, and this is because I am also totally blind like she was. My story is a little different, but we both became Christians in due time. There was no thing in this book that I did not like. I deeply enjoyed listening to this book the way that I chose to do so. I love this inspiring true story, where Jesus is not left out in any way in her life. Love it!!!

You won't waste your time on this one. It is simply profound.
A well written book about Fanny Crosby. I had never heard of her before. Now, I check all hymns to see if she wrote it. It is well worth the read. It is great to read out loud to children or to anyone who loves to learn about people who have made a difference. Her lyrics are so heart-felt. I am sad that she had to live her life in the dark having been blind due to a "medicine man" who did not even care that she screamed when he applied his mustard. If she had been my child I would have cleaned those eyes immediately--but now days we know that doctors don't know it all. That part about her life really bothered me--but, God allows strange things in this world to accomplish his will. It just bothers me to think of baby Fanny suffering at the hands of a fool.

This is a short and easy read, but so worth it
This is a short and easy read, but so worth it! What a remarkable woman Fanny Crosby was! What a model of what it means to walk closely with the Savior!

Worth purchasing
We are homeschoolers who use Tapestry of Grace and this was one of the choices to read in year 4. We read it together and my nine year old loved it!Fanny Crosby led an interesting and full life. She makes a great role model for us all by not playing the victim and overcoming what others might consider a handicap. I enjoyed that Ms. Davis showed Fanny's struggle with her faith and grappling with that to make it her own.If you follow any kind of Charlotte Mason plans or Charlotte Mason"isn" plan... This would be considered a living book.

Family Favorite
We absolutely love this book and have used it as family read aloud. My 8 year old song/music lover received for her birthday and devoured immediately. Well written in simple text, and great quality paperback.

Bare Bones Biography
I really liked the story--my only thought is that the book was probably "geared" to middle schoolers. I would have enjoyed seeing a listing of her hymns.

A good version for young ones
I read this to my granddaughter who is in second grade. We had a great time together hearing about how God used blindness in Fanny Crosby's life to bring glory to Himself and joy and usefulness for eternal purposes for Fanny. Not so detailed that it dragged, but enough to make it a learning experience for me, too.
