The ancients candled primarily for spiritual reasons by using glazed pottery cones to direct a flow of smoke from burning herbs into the ear canal. This was thought to aid meditation and enhance sensitivity, thereby improving a person’s spiritual condition. The same was true in the New World, where the Aztecs, Incas and Mayans all used ear cones in their religious rituals. Today, ear candling is thought by some to have profound metaphysical implications. Over the centuries, ear candles have taken many forms, including hollowed-out sticks, and rolled up newspapers coated with wax. Some societies use a variation of candling, whereby herbed smoke is simply blown into the ears. Most ear candles sold today are produced in modern facilities, under controlled hygienic conditions, with medically safe components. Ear Candling is beginning to gain recognition for its value in treating common ear ailments. It is now practiced in virtually every country in the modern world, including the United States. People are turning to acupuncture, chiropractic, and holistic medicine as preferable alternatives to modern medicine. It is in this climate that ear candling is becoming more popular than ever before. It is is one of the simplest of the alternative therapies to practice, provided you follow the instructions and use common sense.

Suggested Use: Supplies Needed: scissors, paper plate covered with foil, matches, glass of water, wet paper towel, and skewer. Cut an X in the center of the plate big enough for the tapered end of the candle to fit securely through the opening and insert the candle into the hole 2-3 inches. Have the individual to be candled lie on their side. (Pillows are great for getting comfortable) Pull all hair away from the ear and place the tapered end of the candle in the ear. Make sure the candle is slightly tilted. Have your assistant light the other end of the candle and monitor the burning process. The candle must fit snugly in the ear at all times to form a seal to create a vacuum. Notice that a smoke pattern develops at the top of the candle. No smoke will be around the ear of a properly sealed candle. If the smoke pattern changes during the process, or if the tip of the candle gets hot, quickly remove it, and extinguish the flame with the wet paper towel. If more than 4 inches remain, use the skewer to unclog the tip of the candle and continue the process. When the candle burns down to 4 inches, the helper should douse the flame in the water. An ear oil is recommended one hour after each session. INGREDIENTS 12-Handmade Natural Food-Grade Wax Candles, Instructions, Cup, Foil Plate, & Matches in an Air Tight Reusable Container.
