Pedros Chain Cleaner Pig Tool

I got this to replace another brand chain cleaner where the black plastic roller to close the unit came loose. Even before that, I had to grip it like a gorilla to hold it shut...and using it was a mess.The Chain Pig "eyes" are plastic tabs on metal tabs and they spring lock the top easily. I'm not sure I figured out use the hook, but I have a feeling that's great feature. The Chain Pig ain't a pig, it barely splatters at all. I think it cleans fine. For these features, I give it five stars.

Been through a lot of chain cleaners over the years and so far this is the best. First, you install on your bike without the cleaning fluid in the "pig" and then you add the fluid once the "pig" is secure to the bike. No mess whatsoever. Second, the metal "tail" hook on the back really holds the device in place. Lot of the chain cleaners I have purchased in the past always had some kind of handle that eventually broke. Third, the button "eyes" to open up the device really secure the two pieces together when the chain is running through the "pig" getting cleaned. Finally, that the "pig" only takes a small amount of cleaning fluid was a pleasant surprise.Only suggestion is to do a 'dry' run putting the device on and off the bike before you load with fluid. It took me a couple of tries to hook the device onto my derailleur the right way (instructions are a little confusing on which side of the pulley to hook the tail onto) as well as making sure the two pieces of the pig hook together properly.I used some Simple Green cleaning fluid so I did not try with the Pedros cleaning fluid that is recommended. Work fine but wondering if the Pedros stuff is even better. Will have to buy some when I run out of the Simple Green. Finally, I will have to wait to see how easy it is to clean the 'pig's' inners out when the brushes get dirty - so I can't report on that part of the device's cleaning process. One other suggestion - going to take a picture of the inners before I disassemble so I can put it back together the right way (no instructions on how to do provided).All in all a good deal - one comes to expect from Pedros.

I love this thing! I chose it over the many other brands simply because of the hook so I wouldn't have to hold it with one hand and crank with the other. the drag on it tends to pull on the derailleur somewhat but I now have another hook on a cord and I tie it off in the opposite direction. So now it doesn't move and I have a free hand when cranking to keep adding my cleaning solution "Zep Fast 505" mixed 50/50. Then squirt in fresh water, then more solution. Then more water, solution, water......... all while cranking. This gets the chain as clean as clean can be and it's fast and easy. I do pop it open and flush out and squeeze out the sponge a few times too. I finish up with compressed air then let sit a bit to dry out more before oiling. About a beer or two time wise. I use a stand when cleaning the bike and remove the wheels and use a dummy hub which enables spinning the cranks & even working the shifters. To me it's the only way to clean a bike.

I replaced my Park Tool chain cleaner with this. This gadget is far easier to use and more heavy duty. I like the one handed operation due to the derailleur hook. The little hole to pour degreaser into after its mounted is a plus too. Pedro should consider including a small funnel to help with this.One caution: the back connection holding the top to the bottom appears at first to be a hinge, but you actually can't open to the top past about 45 degrees. At that point, you unclip the top from the bottom. It's easy to get the hang of, but the natural inclination is to just raise the top up all the way as if hinged. If you do that, you will surely break the plastic clip hinge. That holds this back from being 5 stars. It is still the best chain cleaner out there.

There's a lot of comment on this Pig, but it really does carry a silk purse. Most of the negatives come from folks who broke the locating/holding pins, or maybe had trouble pressing the black release buttons. I suppose some production defect could have resulted in weak support for the pins, but it's PLASTIC, folks. Plastic breaks. Be careful! As to opening it up, Wide fingers like mine will have a bit of trouble pushing the release buttons, but that's not a fatal defect in my view, nor even a serious drawback. If you want a clean chain, and don't want to produce a mess or spend more than 5-10 minutes in the process, this is the ticket.

This would be 5 stars if I didn't have to buy 3 of them to get one that wasn't broken. The derailleur hook is awesome, and compared to the Park Cyclone this definitely is the better cleaner due solely to the fact that you can use it with one hand.That said, one of the "eyes" that holds the top on was broken out of the box. I ordered a replacement, and again one of the eyes cracked off on the very first use. The third one showed up without any flaws and I've been able to use it normally, but the design of the eyeballs as clips really needs some work. It would be 5 stars otherwise, it's a great product with a major design flaw.

It's so darn cute! I love ripping its face off to clean its insides and the fact that the chain goes the wrong way through its digestive system! Silly pig! The only issue is...AN EYE BROKE.Whatever. Now it's cute with character! Oink oink! I can't wait to replace its guts and keep it whizzing backward through time!

Most chain cleaners are messy and not easy to use. This is neither. Easy to use and clean to boot. Doesn't make a mess as it has 2 halfs that easliy come apart, you pour in Cleaner and close it over the chain. Clip the hook to the lower part of the derailleur and crank the pedal. Easy as pie! Clean chain in seconds! Great design from Pedro! I would suggest having a rag nearby as when the chain exits it has cleaner on it and it can drip a bit. Do it over the grass or cardboard not over the concrete patio like I did....wife wasn't happy but it washed right off.

Excellent chain cleaner. Made of tough plastic, easy to use with a handy filling port to add degreaser. Passed chain through around 10 times and it came out looking brand new. Easy to dismantle for cleaning also. One of the more expensive cleaning machines but worth it.....Used about 4 times and all was good but I made the mistake of leaving a little residual degreaser in it and the plastic warped really badly (It looked like it had melted!) I have since bought a Park Tool chain cleaner and have had no issues with it.......seems to be made of much tougher plastic than this!

Better than other similar product tried - the retaining hook makes it very easy and clean to use, much better than having a handle to hold.

Fantastic simple to use device that makes cleaning your chain easy. If you have a bike you must get one of these.

Really good idea. Don't know why it hadn't been done sooner. Very effective too.
