Jiraiya
Jiraiya is going off alone. Again. But this time it the weight of doom hangs over him. The setup is quick and the battle shows off some really cool sage skills. We've never really seen what he can do, after all.

One of the best Naruto Volumes
This volume has to be one of the best of part 2 if not the whole series, It brings in the leader of the Akatsuki, Pain. He is the wielder of the Rin'negan, the most sacred of all the Kekkai Genkai, on that belonged to the founder of the ninja world. Basically this volume is about Jiraiya trying to locate the leader of the Akatsuki and tracking him down to the hidden rain village, and he coems across two of Pain's lackeys, He interrogates them and pretty much learns nothing of relevance so he dons a disguise as one of the shinobi he interogated and explores the village only to be spotted by "God's messenger Angel", Konan, who was once one of Jiraiya's students, they have a very bried battle which reveals a little more on the situation at hand, when suddenly Pain appears, in a new body, leaving the reader surprised at why he has changed body and how he was able to do so. He then targets Jiraiya, with no end of Summons leaving Jiraiya puzzled over why the heir of the Rin'negan was only using summoning jutsu when he was able to master all element manipulations, then after some time, Pain summons two humans to his side, which also happen to be Pain as well, each of them having their own unique abilities, puting Jiraiya in a difficult position, until he comes up with a plan to trap the three of them and succeeding to do so, after which he walks away to go inform Konoha on what he has learned, and he is ambushed by yet another Pain, this time he has another appearance, and then there are a total od six Pains, "The Six Paths of Pain" and it finishes with Jiraiya recognising one of the new bodies as another of his former pupils.
