Hard to beat for the price. Will recommend to my Scouts.
For the price, these are hard to beat, especially the 2 pack option. Unlike another recent reviewer, i found it very effective. When i trial out a new firesteel, i have a few tests i conduct (with both the included striker and the spine of my knife): igniting birch bark, igniting fine feather sticks and igniting a candle. This was able to light all of these both with striker and knife spine. I'll definitely be recommending these to my Scouts.

Striker is rubbish
Hasn't been very useful. Doesn't ignite dried leaves, cotton wool soaked in vaseline, cotton wool soaked in paraffin or paper. Striker barely throws off any sparks, when I pressed hard enough to put off a decent amount, the striker bent and I still wasn't able to ignite anything. I would not want to rely on this in even slightly damp weather, as it can't ignite dry tinder with accelerant. Was able to get some better sparks using a knife, but it was a UK legal non-locking knife and therefore not safe to use for this. Ended up just resorting to a lighter. Was later able to get some proper sparks using the back of a pair of scissors.

As effective and durable as the LMF Army firesteel but so much cheaper and with no postage cost.
I've been using the Polymath Spitfire kit since they first became available and I've enjoyed using the kit so much that I've gone through several tinder refill sets but despite being durable as well as working so well, my ferro rod is now becoming very worn, so it was great to see these available to refresh the kit. Either as replacements for well used ones or just bought to put in your own kit these are extremely effective rod and striker sets. They produce big showers of hot sparks that easily ignite any suitable tinder, including jute twine, wood shavings, birch bark, coconut fibre, and many others. From repeated practical use in a wide variety of environments, I have found these to be as effective as the LMF Army firesteel, but less than half of the price of the cheapest I've found of those, and with no postage cost. And as a pair with a pound off the price of each, that's a great buy.Do yourself a favour, buy the good stuff from Polymath; it is all top quality and much cheaper than the alternatives.

Value for money
The fire steel is a great size for in your pocket and even with the small size ut can through a lot of sparks the only down side is the Stryker it is not very good at making sparks but is you have a bottle of coke you can certainly open it.

Nothing to dislike, Typically good Polymath Product. Bought in preparation for this summer season. Recommended.

It works fine !
Good chunky size ( I’ve got big hands) makes it easy to hold. Plenty of sparks, good striker - really have no complaints.

Creates heavy duty sparks
Got this for the camping kit. Great fire lighter that produces good heavy duty sparks.
