Chicago Deep Dish Pizza - Gino's East Deep Dish Pizzas

My husband is from the Chicago area and is a fan of Gino's East in general so we had high hopes for a taste of the homeland. DO NOT purchase their frozen Meaty Legend pizza. We would rather have a Totino's frozen pizza instead and save a ton of money. The so called Meaty Legend is so lack of meat we couldn't believe it. Almost no meat at all. Such a disappointment. Will never buy product from Gino's ever again and on our next trip to Chicago we may not even visit a restaurant in person. We have 2 pizzas left (we bought a 3 pack) and we don't know what to do with them. Don't even feel like it would be appropriate to dump them on our adult kids. I think we spent around $90 for 3-11 inch pizzas. I'm sure including shipping but dang, about $30 for a pizza that was so amazingly poor quality. They will never get our business again. And looking at other reviews it looks like we're not alone.

I only gave Gino's pizza a "2" because of the tons and tons of salt it contains. I'm on a low salt diet becaue of my heart. We make our own deep dish pizza without salt it it tastes great. My niece sent me Gino's pizza for my birthday. One serving contains 530 mg of sodium, however that is 1/10 of the pizza. Who cuts a pizza into 10 pieces. This is very deceptive. Most will cut a pizza into 8 pieces and that is equal to 662 mgs of sodium per piece. The whole pixxa has 5,300 mg of sodium. That is enough for almost 3 days worth. I wish they would get that sodium way, way down. Most people do NOT want all that sodium!

I was expecting to get 3 different pizzas (cheese, sausage, and supreme), but the sausage was replaced with an extra cheese. They were good, but I was expecting to get what I paid for.

I find the flavors good, with nice proportion of cheese to sauce and crust. Nice fennel, subtle oregano, and tasty tomato. The toppings seem a little sparse. I top a little Parmesan and extra mozzarella a minute before it's done for decadence. The crust is chewy inside and crispy outside. Never been to Chicago, but this pizza makes me curious to go and try Gino's East fresh.

The pizza in Tucson really sucks. It's like pop-n-fresh dough and ketchup all undercooked with 3 inches of crust at the ends. Turns out the Albertson's chain is affiliated with Jewel so lo and behold there was a Ginos East frozen pie in the freezer case. $8.99 for an 8 inch round pie was pricey but it was heavy. Cooked it at 375 for 45 minutes. Cheese stretched like a TV ad. Sausage had fennel in it. Sauce was think, chunky, tasty and plenty of it. I can only guess from the bad reviews that they had some quality control issues in production early on? One reviewer said instructions said cook 20 minutes. That's less than half what it takes. Let it set up and cool for 5 minutes after removing from oven. If you're eating alone don't cut in half because there is a lot of excess liquid that comes out. Just cut a pie wedge slice and leave it as whole as possible. The only thing missing is the yeasty flavor from the outer crust that happens when the dough touches that seasoned iron pan at the restaurant. This pizza, or the Home Run Inn from Chicago, are the only frozens pies worth a damn.

Did not but frozen. Bad pizza experience.After awesome reviews and recommendations from friends to try this place we decided to stop by. We are from NY and visiting Chicago for the first time.The place looks cool with writing on the walls and it's very clean. Friendly staff also. It was loud for our us though and the tables were wobbly.We knew we would have to wait about an hour for a deep dish pizza which was fine because it was "worth the wait."So we started with the spinach and artichoke dip which was awesome. Didn't take like spinach and the cheese was awesome. I'm not a huge fan of spinach but I would order this again.Place our order and began counting down. Pizza finally came and it smelt delicious. One meat lovers (forget exact name) and four cheese. Everything was great until they told me they put spinach in my four cheese. I said I didn't order that with spinach. They server guy pushes me to try it anyway and he would send over our waitress.I couldn't eat my deep dish pizza I just waited an hour for. I would have tried to suffer through the spinach taste but it was just too over powering to do so. The waitress did feel bad and asked if she could get me anything else. But by that time my two other family members were almost done eating and were beginning to feel full.The waitress asked me if I could eat some of the meat pizza that was left and I said no I ordered the cheese pizza separately because I don't like anything in the meat pizza. We didn't have time to order another pizza and wait another hour so my family could watch me eat.The purpose of eating out is to eat together. So I got to watch my Aunt and Cousin eat their dinner. I left hungry. Granted they didn't charge me for my pizza. Great. But why should I pay for something I didn't eat?As I said it's loud inside so make sure you repeat your order 2X times before the waitress walks away.On our way out the same waitress was boxing up another tables order and knocked a soda over on the lady's lap. The tables are wobbly--be careful you could leave hungry and wearing soda.Spend $54 with tip and $27 on parking for 3 well 2 people to eat. No worth it. Stay away!

Sadly, I ate my last Gino's East store bought pizza tonight. When I first seen this pizza in the frozen section at my grocery store, there was no question, I had to have it. Once I got it home and cooked it according to the instructions, I was not disappointed. Fast forward to two years later and you have one disappointed customer. The price has gone down from when I first started buying them and so has the quality. I hate it when cooperation's insult the intelligence of the consumer thinking that we won't know you have started cutting back. Once I suspect this is happening with a product, I give it two tries before I make my determination this is happening. Gino's East pizza failed thee old two try trick. Save your money.
