Fun Colors, Fun Patterns - Perfect for Beginners
UPDATE (4/12/16): I much prefer this book over 150 All-Time Favorite Crochet Blocks. At the risk of repeating what others have written, the reason why is that this book provides the yardage/meterage (of worsted weight/aran weight yarn) you would need for each color in a combination in order to make a baby, lap, and bed blanket respectively. Also, all of the squares (except the ones in the back labeled as smaller or larger) are approximately the same size, so you can combine them any way you like. Each pattern includes the stitch count for each round. Finally, this book includes a section on blocking and joining, information on yarn textures, color combinations, and edgings, as well as an illustrated guide to various stitches. None of those things can be said of 150 All-Time Favorite Crochet Blocks. 100 Colorful Granny Squares is great for beginners, but if you're new to the craft, I would say steer clear of 150 Crochet Blocks for now. It has several of the same blocks as this book, but a lot less information, which might make it a frustrating reference for a beginner. (I've been crocheting for about a year as of this update and I find it frustrating. You can read my review of it to find out why.) UPDATE ENDS.I'm a relative novice when it comes to crocheting, and I wanted a book that would allow me to make some colorful and interesting granny squares while practicing various stitches and techniques at the same time. This book fits those requirements while also allowing me to indulge my love of bright colors. For those who prefer blocks or squares with more subdued color schemes, the same publishing house has a different book called 150 All-Time Favorite Crochet Blocks. I own both books--100 Colorful Granny Squares and 150 All-Time Favorite Crochet Blocks--and I like both; there is a bit of overlap, but the blocks/squares in the book of 150 look more sophisticated (read: high-class) because of the color selections.

Not your mother's granny square afghan!
This is my go-to book for all things flower grannie square. I absolutely adore Leonie Morgan's books, but this is my favorite. Each of the granny squares include three colorways and two variations on the theme. She includes four projects with complete instructions for throws and pillows. The photographs are large and colorful and Leonie avoids murky-hued projects that hide the details.Graphs are included -- my deal breaker -- no graphs, no purchase.I had to hunt for the information on the type of yarn and the hook size for the projects -- " page 21, "Gauge" -- "... worsted-weight yarn and a size H (5 mm) crochet hook."Terms are in American style. The guide in the front of the book includes information on stitches, color changes, surface crochet, blocking and joining, edging, and embellishments.I have used other books for crochet flower patterns, but I always come back to Leonie's for inspiration. Good job!!

Plenty of Variety and lots of new ideas
This book is inspiring! Everything from the beginner to the more advanced enthusiast is covered. It's a wonderful collection of traditional squares, as well as lots of new ones. Just picking it up is a joy because of the bright, cheery colors. I like the inclusion of edgings too, particularly the dangling flowers - so pretty! The instructions are clear and precise with wonderful photography. Sit down with your children or grandchildren with this book - show them the vibrant pictures - then delight them with how the picture comes to life in your hands! We need to teach our little ones to carry on this wonderful, creative pastime, and this book is a great way to do it! Want something a little more challenging? This book has that too. Charming and refreshing designs make this book a winner in my opinion. I recommend this book to everyone, as something you can come back to again and again. One day it will be passed down to the next generation as a wonderful teaching guide and inspiration for future projects. Highly recommended! (by Ken's wife!)

Easy to follow
I am a crochet beginner. I was drawn to granny squares by the fun color combinations and the variety of different styles. I like that granny squares are super small. I can be super creative in small spurts. I don't have as much time as I would like for this hobby. But granny squares are fun and offer limitless possibilities of color and style combinations and I can turn one out in no time. This book was easy to follow, even for a beginner. I have learned a few of my favs by memory but dig this book out as a reference when I want to try something new

Not the normal Granny Square
This book is a wealth of information. Not only does it have directions for some unusual squares, it also shows different color combinations. The author also gives creative ways to us the squares and she encourages the reader to be creative. A very helpful chart with each design gives the total amount of yarn of each color needed to make any of three sizes of blankets. Beside the sections on designing and color the author talks about blocking, joining, edging, and embellishing. My mind is already racing with ideas for these designs.

An excellent, complete book for crochet
The price of a used one couldn't have been better and I was teaching someone to crochet and, so far, it has everything I needed written in a quite concise way with good illustrations and diagrams. Excellent buy!
