Long Live the Bump System
Another great series from Falcom and localized by XSeed. Spanning 25 years,no less. You don't HAVE TO play ALL the games in order, but why would you deprive yourself of the pleasure. The games CAN also be enjoyed on their own.Now there is the question of playing in Story Order vs Release Order. Falcom themselves, as they remastered some of the games and tightened the Lore, tend to suggest the Story Order : YS1-2 (aka Chronicles), Origin, Celceta, Felghana ...Look it up and choose what fits you. You do You, as they say.Great mythology and once you get used to the Bump System of fighting, grinding to level up while the epic guitar plays becomes absolutely glorious. The series has used different approaches to combat throughout the different games of the series and will require some adjustment going from one to the next. Each have their strengths. You might even choose to only play the games in the series that use your preferred style of fighting.

Ys Book I & II: A True Classic
I can't remember how many times I've played these two games over the course of my life. I still remember when I first played it on my friend's Turbo Duo system back in the early 90s, and I was literally blown away by the simple but elegant game play and the super awesome music and jaw dropping cut-scenes back then. Boy were those the days for video gaming. If you are just starting this series now you probably won't be blown away, but the story and music will still capture your heart and hopefully make this game a memorable one. The packaging is great for this release and it was really generous of XSeed to include the soundtrack for the regular price of this game. The music is definitely one of the highlights of this game. This is truly the best version of the game, although I have to say that I still prefer some of the older tracks (especially track 3 Shrine and track 12 To Make The End Of Battle) but it doesn't overall disappoint. Some people might be turned off by the simplistic combat of this game, but if you can overlook this you're in for one of the best games of the classic JRPG era. So grab your PSP, your AC-adapter and press that D-pad like there's no tomorrow because chances are, you're not going to want to run out of batteries while fighting Dark Falk!

Bumping it's way to victory, one demon at a time.
I'm not going to speak of the game's history as i'm sure it's been said over a thousand times on here. These games were two of the best games of their era, and today they still hold up well, in fact i would say that if one did not know that these games were a remake of the classic origins of the series, i would not doubt that they would be considered recent, as the battle system is still fresh today as it was 20 years ago.The games are fairly short on their own, together they are about as long as your average game of the genre give or take. The story in these 2 games isn't extremely detailed, but it is very good and not a bad story by any means. The music is, without a doubt, some of the best i've heard from a game, in fact i'd probably buy the game for the music alone, also you can pick between the classic, the 2000 japanese remake or the new chronicles tracks at any time while playing.Generally, if your looking for an good story, enjoyable gameplay and memorable characters, then i couldn't recommend this game enough.

The soundtrack
Let me start by saying that I haven't gotten a chance to play this revision of Ys I&II yet. My star ratings were based on the DS version. I believe the PSP version is better, but I don't know that. The two games are fairly short, old fashioned, head-cracking heroism. Not everything has to be dark and brooding to be a blast. My review should really be about the soundtrack that comes with the game. The CD is OUTSTANDING. Hair metal at it's finest. For many of the songs, this is the best mix I've heard, beating the Master System, PS2, and DS mixes that I had heard previous to this. A close miss is "To Make the End of Battle". This mix is good, but I still think I like the old JDK Band version a bit more. All said, to me, the soundtrack is worth the purchase price. The game just makes it better.

XSEED brings us another SSS RPG on our PSP.
As the PSP nears the end of it's life cycle, we are constantly getting amazing RPG's left and right. Seriously, this thing is going out with a bang, and I couldn't be more happy. These games will stay in our collection for years. What we have here is the best version of YS I and II. Updated graphics and music, refined gameplay, and overall it's just a great experience. This is the best way to jump start yourself into the series, as this is seriously the BEST version of these games right here. I also love how they give us the game in a premium set with the soundtrack, at the same price as regular game. I LOVE it. PSP is amazing... RPG's for everyone!!! (:
