Westmark Bean Slicer turns fresh green beans into dinner in no time!
Got a garden full of delicious green beans? Bush beans? Pole beans? Runner beans? Lima beans? Got a hungry tummy? Turn your beans into dinner quickly with this diagonal-cut bean slicer. There are two basic types of bean cutter: diagonal-cut (or bias-cut) and straight-cut. Diagonal-cut bean slicers are better for the more robust (and stringy) beans that most gardeners love to grow (because they are easy and improve the soil), but are less eager to eat because preparation time and effort can be high. Cutting beans on the bias makes their strings less detectable, and your food more delectable. This bean slicer is made by Westmark and is made in Germany, not China. In my home, we all love to prepare and eat home-grown foods, but we avoid eating or preparing food with anything made in China due to their quality control problems. The bean slicer has 4 pieces that require simple assembly. It has a cast-aluminum body coated with a food-safe enamel-like finish. There is the blade wheel that has 3, very sharp stainless steel blades. (The manufacturer clearly wants you to know that the blades are very sharp, because they posted several warnings on the box and on the enclosed instruction sheet -- don't disappoint them by slicing your finger off.) There is the crank handle that screws onto the blade wheel, and there is the clamp screw that clamps the slicer to the edge of your work surface. To use the slicer, just assemble it and attach it firmly to your work surface. Wash and dry your beans. Place a food-safe container beneath the outflow chute to catch the cut beans. Feed the beans into the two slots on top of the slicer as you turn the handle clockwise. Out come your beans, chopped into regular, stringless segments and ready for blanching, steaming or other preparation. This Westmark slicer disassembles and cleans up easily. We think this product earns its 5 stars because it does what it claims to do, is well made, and is priced appropriately.

I would like to offer some feedback on the bean slicer which ...
I would like to offer some feedback on the bean slicer which states it is made in Germany. First the positive, I was impressed with the speed of delivery of this item. The negative was that this is the biggest piece of scrap that I have ever purchased from Germany. I have always been impressed with the quality of items from Germany. This item has been very poorly made, flashing not removed from the casting in some places and ground away too much in other areas. The advertizing is misleading in that it states the bean slicer is cast aluminium, only the casing is aluminium, the slicing part is plastic with the blades held in with plastic pins melted at the ends. There is no way to remove and sharpen the blades. The screw clamping mechanism is of poor quality and has not been threaded into the casing straight. Overall this item is only fit for the scrap pile and, to say the least, I am disappointed if this is the quality now coming out of Germany. Not worth the money that was paid for this item.

Snijbonenmolen for the Dutch folks
Was looking for a great bean slicer for Frenched beans. This one is great, no plastic components to break down and crack.

Works great. Brings me back to when I was a kid spending hours turning the handle while mom fed in the beans.
