We work with a dedicated family of farmers to grow the best tasting fruit on the planet. Our Organic Calimyrna Figs grow in the hot summers and cool wet winters of the Mediterranean. They're harvested at their peak of ripeness and sun-dried to a glorious sweetness. When dried naturally, the sugars within the fig begin to move to the surface of the skin, giving the fig it's off-white coloring. This sugaring process gives the fruit an instant sweet taste, making it an even more enjoyable treat! Our soft tan Calimyrna Figs have delicate skins and moist flesh, each one with just the right balance of sweet and nutty flavors. And figs are naturally high in fiber, perfect for a healthy snack! Quality control problem with these figs?
I probably average 75 purchases a year from Amazon, and this is only my second review, however, I feel compelled to write a caution regarding purchasing these figs.I will start by saying I might be addicted to figs (started with Fig Newtons as a kid?), and eat a couple with breakfast most mornings. I’ve tried a lot of different brands, and a couple years ago came across this Happy Village brand at Costco. I’ve purchased perhaps 20 bags since, from Costco and more recently Amazon.I think every bag of figs I’ve ever purchased, no matter the brand, contained a few bad figs. By “bad”, I mean very dark colored (perhaps over-ripe or beginning to rot when dried), that taste as if they’re fermenting. I’m accustomed to this, and toss the bad ones. While there are varieties of figs that are dark (black mission for example), these Smyrna figs should not be dark. If you want to know what a good fig should look like, all you have to do is look at the pictures on the outside of the package. Happy Village and other brands show pictures of light tan colored figs on their packages, which, no surprise, are the ones that are chewy, flavorful, and delicious! When I first started purchasing Happy Village, I got mostly good figs. But over time, I found I was throwing away more and more bad figs, even though I was many months inside the “Best Before” date stamped on the package, and always kept in the fridge. This brings me to the present. I gave up on buying these at Costco, but tried Amazon with the idea I might get a different lot of better-quality figs. No luck. At least two-thirds of the bag I just received is dark, bad tasting, and with some figs having a moldy appearance.Seems to be a serious quality control problem of some sort, even though the “Best Before” date on the package is 11 months from now… July 22, 2020. I’m including pictures of the fruit, and a picture showing the lot number stamped on the bag, in case this is helpful if the manufacturer happens to read this.I wanted to return the bag I just received, but discovered the item is not returnable. I wouldn’t buy this Happy Village brand again unless I had reason to believe the quality had improved.

Maybe the other reviewers have never eaten dried fruit?
I'm not sure whether some of the other reviewers have ever eaten dried fruit before, but yes, these look "so old and dry" because that is how dried figs look. If you don't like your fruit to look dry, dried fruit is probably not for you. But these Calmyrna figs (the green kind, not the black kind) are a DELICIOUS snack and $18 is an incredibly low price for them. I typically pay $4 or $5 for a package that's about 1/5 the size. I first bought these at Costco and was delighted to be able to find them on Amazon. They're more moist and less rubbery than other dried fruit I've tried, and the figs are whole rather than chopped/sliced. Very tasty.

Used to be the best. Now the worst
Used to eat these 6 times per week for months straight. They used to be amazing. Aside from a few bag figs in each bag, most were really incredible. And the quality got worse and worse till eventually I couldn't even eat half the bag because the other were either really old or just gave off that impression. They were dry, lacking flavor, and my natural impulse was to spit it out. But wasn't too happy with buying about 6+ bad bags in a row.I will reorder some day in hopes that they come out good again.

My go-to brand of dried figs, and I do know my figs.
Some of the best figs you can get from a mass-producer. I usually get these at Costco (I think you save a couple dollars) but it's convenient to be able to get them online and expect the same quality. I've tried many brands of dried figs. I'm a bit of a fig fanatic. These are my go-to figs. Plump, tasty, and good quality control. I've had a few bags before with some un-ripe or over-ripe figs, but never anything gross and usually they're all perfect.

Big, plump and sweet!
I was purchasing these at Whole Foods from a different source. Very limited availability. When the only local store stopped stocking them, I was quite disappointed. Attending an event, they had these mixed among nuts and cheeses. They gave me the brand name and, of course, they were available through Amazon. Yay! The most delicious sundried figs available.

Terrific dried figs - priced 33% higher
I agree with the great reviews for this product. The taste and quality are about four stars. There are, typically, a few over-ripe figs in every bag, but that's been true for every product I've used over the years. Dried figs are a great alternative to junk food.Compare the price here - $19/bag - to other sites like Costco (including Google Express) and Walmart, where these same 40 oz bags sell for $13 or less.

Upon opening the package, I discovered that many of ...
Upon opening the package, I discovered that many of the figs were moldy. I had purchased this brand previously with no problems; however, this time it was necessary to trash the whole package.

Tastes Good
The local natural food store has been unable to get Calimyrna figs for several months so I looked on Amazon and viola, there they were. The price was quite competitive compared to purchasing them locally, the fig quality was very good, and we keep them in the refrigerator to maintain freshness. The package showed an expiration date about 9 months out so there should be no problem with the figs going bad. Oh, by the way, the figs taste absolutely delicious.
