Lots of power, lightweight.

Just ok
It feels a little bit to short for me, I'm 6'3. It drains 4 amp makita original battery in 20 min on 2nd speed setting.Overall it is OK, enough to trim your lawn

Very awkward ergonomics
There is no length adjustment between the head and the trigger. If you don't have NBA arms, it's going to feel way too long. These things should be adjustable for different size people. Only the center handle is adjustable and no adjustment helps. I am 5"8" and proportional and I cannot get the head at the right cutting angle without holding the trigger at shoulder level. Very uncomfortable. Might try to sell this one and find something more user friendly. Hey @Makita, wanna trade?

I hate 2 strike gasoline engines and long pants
I always avoid running a string trimmer for a couple reasons. First, is the 18 year old Echo going to start? (and last time out, it didn't). Second, I avoid wearing long pants, and with the Echo, it was long pants or bloody shins.Since I did not want to diagnose and fix the Echo and this unit had good reviews (and I am a long time LXT tool customer and have batteries and chargers), I gave it a try. After my first use, I love it. It is powerful enough to cut what needs cutting, but not so powerful as to propel every single bit of debris directly at my shins at mach speed! If you hate 2 stroke engines and long pants and especially if you are already bought into the LXT battery system, this is the unit for you!

Cuts Well But Guard Is Too Small
This is a serious tool and works well. The bump-to-lengthen string mechanism is old school but does what it should and limits the amount of string you use. Without a built-in mechanism to flip the tool for edging, it takes a while to get used to setting the correct angle manually. That's also OK. What's rough is that the guard is extremely small and the user is showered with debris. Wear your eye protection and build in time to shower afterward!

Powerful and light....hard to go back to gasoline powered
Already had 2x Makita 18V batteries for my drills, so this was an easy choice, but I'm glad I made the switch. My gas-powered trimmer finally gave it up and I decided to switch to electric on the advice of my neighbor. Not sure I'll ever buy a gas-powered trimmer or blower again after using this.Powerful - Two stages allow for stage 1 to be used for general trimming and stage 2 for edging. The torque this thing produces is able to power through anything I've been able to throw at it. Heavier gas powered trimmers used to bog-down and run rough when put under load, but not this.Battery Life - Could be better for heavier tasks, but one of my smaller drill batteries is enough to trim up my 1/4 acre. I have two batteries and have only had to change batteries during a single job when I add edging to the routine. The batteries do tend to get hot, especially if you trim on a warm day in the sun, so they cannot immediately be put on the charger when the job is done and must be cooled off inside first.Weight - Probably 1/2 the weight of a less-powerful gas trimmer.

Meh on quality. Having issues after a week of use.
So this thing was pretty rad and taking care business; weed business that is. However, it’s decayed to the point of near uselessness in less than a month. The top kept coming off too matter how tight I screw it back on. Now the cover is frozen on so I can’t advance the line. All my other makita stuff rules but this weed whacker sucks balls!

Satisfied with one exception...........
I utilize Makita tools recognizing quality of manufacture and design along with keeping commonality for batteries and charger. This trimmer is solid with the exception of one thing and that is the size of the debris guard utilized. It is simply too small to be effective from getting plastered with grass and all the other debris you get when trimming. That's my only complaint regarding what is otherwise another excellent piece of Makita tooling...........inadequate sizing for the guard.
