Q: Will this accept a 3/8 hex shank earth auger and tighten down?

No. The round hole is 3/8” so it will NOT accept a 3/8” hex. I tried. No luck

Q: What is the out side diameter of the female end? I want to use a 3/4" drill bit with a 3/8" shank and reach a depth of 12"

The product specs indicate that the outside dimension's are: Length 12-inches Width 3/4-inches (OD of female end) Height 3/4-inches For use with ship auger bits with 3/8” hex shank If you use a 3/4-inch drill bit, this extension may/will jam inside the hole you are drilling because the OD is the same size. Go one size larger to 25/32 or 13/16-inches. The bit must have a hex shank or it will spin in the extension when under load. This is for slow speed.

Q: What size set screws do I need to replace the ones that come with this?

Dont know exactly. Best to bring it to your nearest Ace Hardware, they can help you there for sure.

Q: what size are the allen keys?

Don't know off the top of my head. I own hex key packs so I wasn't too worried about it. I knew I would have the right size.
