An Absolutely Wonderful Product! Totally worth the price!
This set of Pencils are absolutely worth the price. I am not an expert artist, But, These pencils are a beauty to behold, from the moment you open the Tin You can just see the quality, I love that I dont have to squint to see the labeling, Its 100 percent comfortable to the eyes, The colors are amazing, and i have so many favorites already. Colors that ive never seen before. The Pencils come in blending order, Not color family order which honestly i like.. Im new at blending so this really helps! I have tried them on Black and White Canson Mixed Media Paper and Bee Watercolor paper, and they show up so beautifully! They came presharpened so i didnt have to spend extra time sharpening 120 pencils.. yikes!, They seem a bit weighted compared to my other pencils but im betting that that contributes to its Durability. They seem very solid has a soft touch to them. The Gold on the bottom of the pencil is gorgeous in my opinion! I absolutely recommend these fun to use media! They also come with a swatch paper as well, on the opposite side is a chart that lets you know what the letters and numbers mean as well! If you are looking for a wonderful set of pencils.. Get these!... Seriously! The ONLY Negative thing i will comment is that the plastic holders inside the tin are very flimsy but does not take away from the quality of the pencils and for that Im ok with!

Great pencils for your aspiring artist!
After watching several online reviews, I chose these colored pencils—and they did not disappoint! They’re smooth, vibrant, and perfect for my 11-year-old daughter, who loves to draw. They’ve lasted well so far and are an excellent choice for a beginner artist. Great quality and value!

Wonderful Hobby Grade Pencils
I am stating up front that this review is for the Star-Joy Gold pencils, since both versions seem to be lumped together in the reviews and Amazon doesn't indicate which set was purchased, just that it's a "verified purchase."I found these pencils to be exactly the way they were described. I have followed Lori Green on YouTube, on her channel Color My World, for a couple of years now. I was very excited when she announced that she was going to be collaborating with Andy on these pencils because the original Star Joy pencils were so great. The attached pictures are the same picture in two different lightings, it's just a work in progress of a Maria Trolle picture in her Botanicum book. I deliberately used the pink blending set and as you can see they work together beautifully. I did go in with some complimentary colors to create cast shadows, but that's just me being me.The pencils come sharpened to a blunt point as my picture shows. This is designed to prevent breakage during shipping and it does its job. I did notice some dripping and setting on the ends with the gold paint clumping from overdipping, but that's not a functional problem so I didn't take off starsfor that (see picture). The pencils lay down very smoothly, as one would expect from a well made pencil that is high in oil content. I don't like to say oil based or wax based because that is something that people started saying when adult coloring became a thing and all pencils have both. I won't compare them to Polychromos because Polychromos are artist grade pencils, but these are really really good hobby grade pencils. I don't know how I feel about the setup as far as having it be convenient for regular coloring the way I do it, because I can pick my own color families, but I can see it being really helpful for beginners. The way the pencils are made, meaning how they lay down and layer, will teach new colorists to use a light hand in order to get the layering and blending results that they're seeking.I follow Lori already, so jumping over to her new channel for these pencils was no big stretch for me, but I don't know how I feel about forcing people to follow a YouTube channel in order to be able to start using these pencils. I do feel like you should be able to buy a set of pencils on Amazon, open the box, and know what the letters and numbers on the pencils mean without having to go to YouTube to find out. I've been told that there's going to be literature put in the newer sets to explain what all of it means, but, like, I don't even know what some of it means and I have an education in fine art.Other than that I have no complaints about this set, they color beautifully, they lay down, blend, and layer beautifully. The only thing missing is light fast ratings and that's what keeps them affordable. If you need lightfest pencils, you are now a professional artist selling your work and you should be buying brands like Caran d'Ache and Faber Castell and Prismacolor and Derwent. You should not be shopping for hobby grade pencils that are in this price range. But colorists in coloring books don't need lightfest pencils, and that's with these are for. And toward that end they do their job probably better than any other set of pencils on the market designed for coloring.

I would highly recommend these color pencils...
...to anyone looking for a great budget friendly set of color pencils. First I have to say thank you to YouTuber Lori Green from Color My World. She worked with Andy (the CEO of HG Legend / SJ Star Joy) to put together a wonderful set of color pencils. These color pencils were put together with the artists in mind. To the core size, barrel color, placement of color names and the colors... My my my, I don't know if it's just how the pencils are set up by certain groups, but these colors are so appealing and beautiful. The color pencils have a soft core, some more then others but I have no complaint on that. I"m not a big fan of Prismas in my every day use because they are too soft for me. But these were perfect. My only negatives are that the names weren't printed very well on my set of color pencils and a few of them I'm gonna try to take a Sharpie to fix some of them since the letters aren't even there on a few. Hopefully that doesn't continue... My only other small negative... and I mean small... The names are sometimes 2 words or some 3. But because they aren't written together when I put them into my pencil case I only see one name... For example, one call is Blue Cotton Candy, so however you place it, you will either see the number code, Blue Cotton or Candy. Don't mind my bit of OCD. But that is literally my only complaints. I think these are going to be a great primary set of color pencils for me. And not to mention if you go to her YouTube, she gives you tips on how to enjoy these pencils even more. Thank you Andy for not just being another company whose putting out another cookie cutter set of budget friendly color pencils. Thanks for caring. And thank you Lori for all your hard work helping him achieve a great product. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
