Awesome book and Why It Is. Mistakes Happen & Already Corrected!!
First I have to say, the quilts in this book are stunning. If I never made anything from this book, it is worth having just to look at!***It is known that there are some errors on some measurements of the blocks, and the corrections are published on their websites! That information is on the last page of the book. Mistakes happen, and that should *not* deter you from buying this book!!! ***This is the kind of quilting that I am attracted to. It's hard for me to say exactly what category I fit into as a quilter (modern vs. traditional), but I feel like this book gives a good representation on how I categorize myself as a quilter. I love modern quilts but have a soft spot for traditional quilts that have been made for decades. In this book, I especially love the way modern meets traditional quilting by using modern fabrics with unique spins on traditional quilting blocks! That is where the magic happens that makes this book so great. The book contains 20 modernized "traditional" blocks, which are broken down into tutorials, and a quilting project for each one (there are 22 projects in the book!)They include tips on how to construct the block accurately, and explain different ways you can use the blocks to make primary and secondary patterns in your quilt, which looks so awesome! Some blocks are simple piecing and some blocks use paper piecing. Each block tells you what material you need, what equipment you need, how to cut the fabric, how to assemble the pieces for the block, then shows you how to use that block in a project! The instructions are clear, and provide great pictures and diagrams as you construct the block. The possibilities of what you can make from this book is literally infinite! There are also really cool history tips about the block they use. Three people created the quilts and projects in this book, and each are amazing quilters and artists. The book comes with a CD so you have all the patterns from the book, which is especially handy when you are using paper piecing. This book is a not a book to start out with if you never sewed on a sewing machine, but after you learn the basics, you can pick up this book and get on your way to creating awesome quilts like these ladies! There are projects that start at a Beginner level, but there are also projects for Intermediate and Advanced quilters as well. That is what makes this book so great because you can grow as a quilter as you use this book! I believe this book will be an invaluable asset to anyone that quilts. This book will be a permanent reference book for me. This book is great to have, just for the inspiration alone! I'm in love the quilt on the cover and want to marry it!, isn't it so gorgeous?!! I'm excited to make my own awesome quilt that will cover my bed someday in the near future! Thank you so much for publishing this book! If the authors ever make a sequel to this book, I would definitely buy it!

More than just some pretty quilts
I'm so pleased with this book. Yes, the quilts are all beautiful, but more than that, this book is a lesson in how to reinterpret traditional quilt blocks into something more modern. The book uses 20 classic blocks. 1 or 2 blocks are then used in each of 19 projects that use 3 design variables to update the look, by exploring variations in block placement, color, or by altering the block itself. Then each of the 3 designer/authors uses all the blocks to show 3 different modern quilt samplers.I feel that the book is very thoughtfully written. I like that there are Intermediate and Advanced level quilting projects, which gives me something to work towards. There's a CD in the back of the book giving templates for all the blocks so you can just print your templates out and start cutting. They don't waste pages giving a beginner level quilting lesson- there are other books that cover that in more detail so best to refer to those books if that's what you need. They also tell you the sort of stitch they used to quilt each project, which a lot of other books don't mention.I am really enjoying today's Modern Quilt Movement. But there are a lot of books out there, and a lot of blogs. It's easy to throw some bright colors into a quilt and call yourself a Modern Quilter. I think this book distinguishes itself as having more than just some pretty quilts you can copy...although as I said, the quilts are really, really pretty!

Beautiful book, but lots of foundation piecing
The book is beautiful. I've already cut out most of my pieces for "Geometric Slide" and I'm collecting fabrics for "Cosmos Baby". I do feel, however, that this book relies too heavily on paper foundation piecing. In some cases it's necessary, such as the lovely "Wheel of Fortune" or so that points line up precisely in "Tilted Star". But others seem more suited for traditional piecing. Several blocks are entirely rectangles, squares, and half-square triangles, yet are foundation pieced. I'd be more interested in making the blocks if sizes for traditional piecing were given, but not with foundation templates. I feel this way about "Crosspatch", "Rolling Squares", "Cross and Crown", "Double Windmill", "Red Cross" and the "Mayflower" 12 inch (though I appreciate the tiny templates for the "Mayflower" 3 inch blocks!). I may just measure the templates, add 1/4 inch seam allowances, and come up with my own measurements for traditional piecing if I'm going to make entire quilts from those blocks.

Fun fresh projects
After first previewing this book from my library, I decided it was one I wanted to add to my collection. Turns out this is a book that I'm actually using instead of it just sitting on my shelf looking pretty. I really appreciate how the authors have included a project to go along with each block, as well as the sampler quilt options. The book is heavy in the paper piecing department, and I feel like there are some of the blocks that really don't need to be paper pieced, but for me that's pretty minor. I can skip the paper piecing if I desire on those blocks. I have had no issues with seams aligning. I consider this a GREAT purchase with exceptional value and inspiration.

Inspiring designs
I was so excited to receive this book and am even more excited now that I have had time to spend with it. First up on my list to make will be the Cut Glass Baby Quilt and then the Star Bright. Or maybe the Sugar Snow. Too many to choose from. These quilts are incredibly inspiring. As someone who feels sewing and other domestic arts are a wonderful way to connect us to our foremothers (I learned to tat only because my great-grandmother used to tat) I also love the mini history lessons included. I hope we get more from these talented authors.Anyone making these quilts should check out the publishers site for the book at vintagequiltrevival[dot]com. There you can find errata as well as technical help for the CD.

A feast for the eyes and so much inspiration
Love this book, and thereโs a quiltalong at the mo so thatโs even better. All patterns well laid out and instructions are easy to follow. Love the old quilt patterns made new and up to date just by piecing the right fabrics together.

Quilt book
A great book showing you clear instructions to make the blocks. They are different from the usual block type books and have got me inspired'some of the blocks need some experience but a lot is fairly straight forward.A mixture of simple piecing but a few are using foundation piecing
