Henry Darger

This is the best book production on the work of Henry Darger ever published. It is wide in format to honor the wide cinematic "pan" art images that tell the narrative of his extensive writings. The images are printed in precision and exact color rendition detail that brings out the clarity of the color plates. There is a compendium of scholarly writings that place Darger within a much larger historical context. The personal history of Darger's life gives the context for the prolific amount of large scale (done with basic or "meager" art supply means) Art. Darger was a dreamer and hard worker who moved through life unnoticed. It is by grace that his work was saved and preserved. If only he could have experienced this recognition while alive.

One of those must own art books. Hopefully there will be complete copy of Darger's book someday.

This book is an absolute delight. It is the closest I will get to experience any Darger piece. His work is strange, with some beautiful use of color, but much of it is disturbing and strange to say the least. If you know of Henry Darger, and are attracted to his artwork, this is the book to own. An amazing and sad story.

The book is too beautiful to set down. The artist is unfortunately long gone and there is no opportunity to learn all the fascinating things that must have been going on in his head. Gorgeous illustrations.

It places perspective, both past and present, in terms of artwork, ideas, storytelling and publication revolving around him, and places his material squarely, silently and imperiously in the middle.Prefaced vey well, but includes little of the novel text apart from what is included in the artwork.

What a great book! I have done a lot of research on Darger, and have looked at nearly all the books available, and this one wins, hands down. I strongly recommend it.

Henry Darger is a fantastic book if you enjoy viewing disturbing content and experiencing the remains of an enigma.

I don't know what to say about this collection except that IT IS BEAUTIFUL AND PERFECT. The paper, the binding, the heft, the gloss, the sheer OOMPH of this volume. And then there's Darger, and his intricately sad images, every detail committed to paper, right here for you to enjoy.I sit with this book on my lap and pore over each page. I've tried to read the book page by page, but always get distracted in 10 different directions by Darger's drawings and notations.If you're a fan of outsider art/artists, or Darger in particular, you MUST have this book. La description lapidaire offerte par Amazone m'avait fait hésiter avant d' acheter cet ouvrage.La surprise a donc été particulièrement bonne lors de la découverte, puis de la lecture.Le livre contient essentiellement des reproductions des tableaux de Darger, en format paysage (ce qui est logique lorsqu'on considère l'oeuvre), sur fond noir, magnifiquement mises en page. Certaines pages sont même dépliables, de manière à pouvoir apprécier plus encore les images.Il y a aussi du texte (en anglais uniquement: attention si vous ne le lisez pas!), qui présente et explique l'oeuvre, sa place dans la vie de l'auteur, ses points communs avec d'autres artistes... bref, les explications habituelles pour un ouvrage de découverte d'un artiste.C'est un très bel objet, que les amateurs de Darger peuvent s'offrir, à défaut de pouvoir consacrer plusieurs centaines d'euros à ça: Henry Darger: In the Realms of the Unreal qui est certainement plus complet, je l'admets. 和書でもヘンリー・ダーガーの画集は出版されているけれど、絵を詳しく見たい人にはこっちの洋書の方がおすすめ。値段の割にボリュームがあり、しかもほぼフルカラーです。なので、色遣いの美しさが際だった内容になっています。本が大きいサイズなので、どのページをめくっても、細かいところまでしっかり見ることができます。とくに雲や木々の表現は目を見張る美しさです。洋書なので、解説はわからないところもありますが、絵がすべてを物語っているので、解説を読まなくても充分楽しめる内容になっています。おすすめです！
