Archie gets married is a great (end?) of an old series
I'm pushing 80 and I hadn't read Archie in probably 50 years or so. This red headed screwball and his two knockout girlfriends were quite popular back when I was in school. I just happened to see this hardcover edition on Amazon and nostalgia got to me and, figuring it might be a lark, I bought it. The drawing was a bit difficult to get use to; not that it was bad, just different from that of Montana who drew it when I read it. It was interesting that the Veronica story was first. Actually, Veronica turned out to be much nicer than one would have supposed and Archie did considerably better than a person might think he would with the sudden wealth and responsibility, Archie would be more or less happy with Veronica and this played out in the story. Running Betty as the second marriage story, I think, taught a totally different story. A more true to life story, Betty proved to be the perfect wife; even in hard times. Archie finally, with Betty's help, took responsibility and became a really happily married man with a true soulmate in Betty. Two points in the story were especially poignant to me. The first was when Betty went to Veronicas house to ask her to be her bridesmaid and Veronica blew up at her. Bettys response was to cry. Betty was definitely the nicer of the two and she was deeply hurt at thinking she had lost a friend. The second episode was near the end of the story where Archie says to Betty, that he wants to take a walk in the woods and that she shouldn't wait up for him and her response was I'll wait for you as long as it takes. Was this a bit of prophecy? To me it meant that Betty was Archie's soulmate whereas Veronica was at best an infatuation. I liked what was done with the other major characters. I agreed with Archie when he told Betty he thought it was a mistake for Veronica for marry Reggie. Veronicas Dad set them up with a movie studio and I cannot see Reggie remaining true to Veronica with all of those tempting starlets available. Remember Reggies character. I thought it was great that Jughead found true love (above hamburgers of course) and that Mr. Weatherby take an interest in Miss Grundy. Remember this all took place after the gang graduated from college. Everybody had four plus years of change there. So for me, the Archie Marries Betty segment was a most excellent end of a very long cartoon series. For me this capped the whole series. I thought it was the best Archie I had ever read, but remember I did miss most of 50 years of the series. Highly Recommended.

Wish I was Part of the Archie Gang...
I bought this awhile ago now and have read it over and over again. There is something so wonderful and simple about the Archie series. It makes you wish you were in Riverdale and living amongst the crowd. No matter what year it really is, I always think I'm in the 50's or so. It's just a fun, peaceful world to be in. Now, as for this particular book, I was very happy to see a couple of things:1)Veronica grew up...a lot. She was not nearly as uptight and self-centered as she always was...even if she was still completely spoiled.2)In each world, Archie was completely happy with his choice of wife...and each had twins!!!3)Both lives had good and bad things happening - good job he loves, good job he dosen't - tons of money, great house...enough money, good apt, etc. Now, my only negative critisism is that when he marries Veronica, Betty dosen't end up with anyone. At least, not by the end of the story. She is by herself. When he marries Betty, Ronnie gets married to someone else. That is NOT fair at ALL. I think the writers did always favor Ronnie just a little. Maybe they like making Betty suffer....But, overall no matter which girl you're rooting for, you finish the book truly satisfied with either ending, just happy that no matter which one he chooses, life will work out all right for Archie.

Arch and the Girls
I gave this as a gift to my wife on Valentine's Day. With both of us being post-50 we used to read the comic book as kids, and even as teenagers. She thought the gift was romantic and sweet, and we shared our favorite story parts with one another. We were both happy to see how Archie's "marriages" turned out for him, and, we were glad to see the girls finally become BFF's after all the preceding years and hissy fits. I said to my wife that unlike Archie I knew my path led me to the right girl, and I didn't need to travel "up" Memory Lane to find my true love. Sappy? Sure, but she says that's why she loves me!Book is well made, the colors and drawings are great, as well as the terrific sleeve it comes in. Think of this guys for your next anniversary, or next Valentine's Day.Now, if only we could see what Max Fleisher ultimately had in mind for Popeye and Olive Oyl ?!

Outstanding presentation of historic Archie comics event!
I just received the hardcover edition of the Archie wedding story arc. The volume is much nicer than expected, beautifully hard bound with a die-cut slip case housing the interior hardcover volume. The book itself has a glossy, color cover much like the reprint series being published by IDW.There is also a bonus comic book inserted in the back that reprints 5 classic Archie stories from about 1948 to 1960. The original covers of these books are reproduced on the back of the comic. The book itself provides a thorough history of how the storyline originated and evolved. Internal emails between Michael Uslan and Jon Goldwater are reproduced to document the background of the project. A nice bibliography is provided in the back to document references made throughout the story.Overall an extremely nice item and a bargain at Amazon's discount price. At a price of just $5 more than the trade paperback issued earlier in the year this is an amazing keepsake.

The Longest Love Triangle
The Archie comics don't quite have the same star status here is the UK as they do in America, so for those unfamiliar with the series they're a line of comics that have been running since roughly the 1940s, focused on redheaded teenager Archie and his friends. Most of the stories feature his on-going love triangle with the glamourously rich Veronica and the friendly girl next door Betty. However, that love triangle may just come to an end in this graphic novel. As Archie takes a trip into the future, he views how his life might change if he marries either Veronica or Betty, one life giving him all the wealth and security in the world while the other providing him with the everyday comforts that come with choosing love over money. As well as this, the book also features in-depth interviews with most of the creators of this story, detailing exactly how much of a big deal it was in the states, along with a free bonus comic featuring classic Archie strips from over the decades. The book itself is of a large size for a graphic novel and presented in a beautiful board folder, so you do get your money's worth for buying it.From an outsider's point of view it isn't hard to get into the story at all, though the style of the comics really are a matter of taste. I enjoyed it thoroughly though and think it's a real shame that we don't have easier access to Archie comics in the UK.

Hardcover Version is the Way to Go
The media could not be loaded. This is a beautiful box-set collector's edition version: a hardcover of the 7 comics in the series, with annotations and behind-the-scenes interviews. It also includes a reprint comic of early stories in the back for nostalgia. The book is well designed, thick and well bound and will last through many re-reads. The box is nicely configured with the cutouts. It's just a really high quality version of the Archie Marries series. I suggest foregoing the paperback version and spring for this instead. Since I didn't realize what I was getting, I've provided pictures and a quick vid to show everyone else who is interested. As for the story, it's a classic Betty-or-Veronica decision and each is explored... There are enough good synopses in the other great reviews here so I won't repeat them, but for long time fans of the series, it is a powerful read.
