My toddlers LOVE this book!!
My 1 1/2 year ofd daughter and 3 1/2 year old son cannot get enough of this book, and for weeks have been reading it daily! My son asked me if there are more books about Pepi the Parrot, and sadly at this time, there are not, but this book is a must-have!! Great for a gift for a 2 or 3 year old!

Beautifully Done...
One of the cutest books that we have come across in a long time, my child is enraptured with this new addition to our library. Pepi Sings a New Song is about Pepi the precocious parrot that sings to her owner Peter whenever he looks through his telescope. Even though Peter hasn't said anything, Pepi thinks that he has become tired of her usual song, so she goes in search of new words to learn to add a little variety to her song.Pepi visits a bakery, a music store, an artist and much more to learn new words to add to his song. The illustrations are creative, modern and engrossing, full of bold colors and easy to distinguish characters and objects. The typography is well done, words accentuated and easy to follow along with. This is a great learning tool for children to expand their vocabulary or learn to read new words.A great addition to your child's library or a fun and intellectual gift for a young reader.

This peppy, perky story about Pepi, a singing, song writing parrot is a great "identify the object" book for your preschooler!
Peter was a stargazer and loved looking into outer space with his telescope while Pepi, his white parrot, looked on. Pepi was a songwriter and had a very special song to sing to Peter. "Twinkle, twinkle, little stars, / Satellite, planet, galaxy, Mars. / Comet, Venue, telescope, / Jupiter rocket, Asterope. / Saturn, Mercury, Milky Way, Neptune, orbit, moon, sun ray." Peter would study star charts, look at a globe and think about the universe, but soon he tired of Pepi's song. It was time to find something new to sing about so off he went to explore.Off he went to visit Manuel, the baker. Pepi hopped on his shoulder to get a glimpse at all the wonderful things in his bakery. He rolled a rolling pin, checked out some pastries, licked the whisk, decorated a cake, tossed some sprinkles, and iced a cake as he tucked the experience in his mind for when he would write a new song. Next he went to Clive's music studio to have a musical experience. There was an accordion, a xylophone, a violin, maracas, a sax, a flute, a trombone . . . a regular "symphony of musical things to sing about." He visited Aurora's art studio, Malcolm's market, and Cynthia's dog park. There had to be a song in all these experiences, but what would it be?This peppy, perky story about Pepi, a singing, song writing parrot is a great "identify the object" book for your preschooler. Pepi is a fun, charming character that you little one will fall in love with. Each experience with a new character opens up to a two-page spread with many objects to identify. Little ones just love to identify objects and these pages will be lots of fun to explore with them. The artwork is quite lively and appealing. This would be a delightful book to read during circle or story time!

Excellent and Beautiful Book
I have a very discriminating 2.5 year old. She loves Pepi and he is often selected by her from her bookshelf. I love Pepi too. The artwork is so beautiful and the idea is very clever. The pictures give my toddler a lot to explore without being frantic or busy. Twinkle Twinkle is one of her favorite tunes, so it gives us something familiar (which kids love) and something new (which we love). She has been learning new words from the book and that just doesn't get old. I have purchased this book for friends and would recommend it to anyone.Enjoy!

Pepilicious!
My three kids and I have really enjoyed reading Pepi Sings a New Song. The kids have learned new words (I learned a couple myself...) and also a little about how wonderful it feels to do something special for someone you love. And the book is plain gorgeous with its matte colors and Laura Ljungkvist's striking retro illustrations. Quite a departure from her equally stunning follow the line style. I do echo the words of another reviewer who would have liked to hear the song! Maybe they can offer an mp3 download in the future....

Interactive and fun to read!
A very artfully executed approach to a picture dictionary with Pepi at the helm! She finds so many words, which she utters in speech bubbles, as she sings her way to the music studio, the market, the art studio, the park, the bakery, and more....here in our library we play with the rich vocabulary and create poems, set to the "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" tune, to help to increase the vocabulary of our second language learners here...kids are really attached to Pepi's playful spirit. Lovely book!

Pepi is a five star!
I have been interested in Laura Ljungkvist art since "Monsoon Wedding," and her books don't disappoint.I'm not a kid, nor do I have any... but this book is absolutely on my top list of 2010.First, the aesthetic of this book is amazing. Bright colors, beautiful art, and a complex simplicity all bring Pepi to life. Each page is suitable for framing.Secondly, this story is smart, cute, and fun. When does the toy line come out? The feature film?I want Pepi to come home with me!

Great New Book with Great Artwork!
I have a 6 year old and a 4 year old who really enjoy this book. We have a few of the author's previous "Follow the Line" books which also have the same retro cool but modern sharp illustrations. The kids look forward to each new book that comes out. This one follows Pepi through a day of discovery that is fun and instructive for the kids. Pepi is a great character and there is a sweet message at the end.
