I DIG THIS COMPASS!

East is least / West is best
I am too old to go hiking in any other place than the Mall.I used this compass to aid me in laying out the footprint for a new garage's concrete pad on an E/W, N/S Geographic line. It's a Compass you say? Reads in MAG headings you say?Determine the Variation in your area by consulting a pilots Sectional Chart, add or subtract the difference as necessary and you have a reasonably accurate Geographic readout. It was just a Garage layout and the concrete guys will tweak it as necessary.A Starrett 530-100 3/8" x 100' Closed Reel Steel tape measure was a necessary part of my project.Once I had the layout drawn on AutoCAD , these two items made locating the corners of the pad a snap!Old guys need something to do.The quality of this Compass surprised the heck out of me. I expected a bunch of plastic , use it few times and toss it in the recycling -- BUT NO! This little beauty is built hell for stout! This item will be around for my heirs to fight over -- and maybe theirs too? This is a QUALITY product. It is easy to read and has some features that I flat didn't expect --like the magnifier that reads degrees off of the side of the 360 Deg. floating dial while allowing you to align objects in the distance with the cross hairs of the sighting lens. For the price of a good meal you can own a compass that will help navigate your a--- out of the wilderness -- or mine, out of the Mall.CWSMaybe after the garage is built I will walk the Appalachian Trail

Now I Don't Feel So Lost
I've recently been touring around the Southern Hemisphere, close to the other side of the Equator and realized that I have become disoriented. The Sun is not where it used to be for me in the North Hemisphere, the Big Dipper is well below the horizon and now out of my sight, there are no trees here to speak of and most winter skies are heavy overcast so I can't see the Sun or the Southern Cross. So, I tried out Google Maps, also downloaded a number of compass apps on my cell, and found out quickly that those apps are the worst on battery consumption and data usage. Great! Now I get a bigger phone bill for the data, my cell is constantly out-of-juice, no one speaks English here, and my translator is on my dead phone. Not only am I still disoriented but also feeling like "easy pickings" for the bad guys, can't call the police on my dead cell and wouldn't know what or how to say what I needed. So, I decided to purchase a dedicated magnetic compass. Actually I bought two, the Eyeskey and another one from a different seller. The Eyeskey is heavy, chunky and I love it. The other is slimmer but very heavy for its size. They both show North in the same direction. The money I save on data charges will pay for these two items quickly. Also, I can tether both devices to a couple of lanyards to make a bola to keep the "bad guys" at bay while I practice Spanish with the police on my cell phone now that I have a lot more battery life.Bottom line: For me, there is no replacement for a well-made, real magnetic compass that does not require batteries or the annoying, constant calibrations. The Eyesky I bought is a well-made multi-tool I can rely on 24/7 and it does what it says in the product description. It came with a heavy-duty, military type canvas bag to wear on the belt. The packaging was great with no harm to the other items shipped along from Amazon.

you might be better off buying that
This is an OK compass for a hobbyist or for somebody driving in a car, trying to find out which way North is. It looks very impressive and has many features, but it is not really a professional instrument. I took a closer look at mine and it turned out that the bullseye is not horizontal with respect to the base. Also, the top ring is eccentric with respect to the windrose, and this leads to up to around 3 degrees of error when you read the angle. If you really want to use this as a sighting compass and measure e.g. the width of a river, then you will have to make several readings and these errors will start compounding in your calculation. Also, the main issue is that a sighting compass should make it possible for the user to hold it horizontally, look at a remote object horizontally and then look down at the windrose to read the angle, all of this without moving the compass. No matter how I turn and hold this device, I cannot do it. I cannot get everything to line up at the same time. I looked at a US Army sighting compass, that makes this possible. If you want an accurate instrument, you might be better off buying that.

Great compass! Excellent value for the money
Great compass! Excellent value for the money. Its the best way to take accurate bearings visually. Not great for map use but for sighting objects and taking bearings it's top notch. The Beileshi brand is identical but $10 cheaper. However it doesn't come with the nylon case or lanyard. So go buy it if you want to save a couple bucks. Or if you want the extra carrying case and lanyard this is the one!***I bought 6 compasses all in this price range to evaluate side by side. This one and the Beileshi are the best hands down. Don't waste your money on the other similar ones. Just buy this or the Beileshi.

Good Deal
I am highly satisfied with my selection of this compass. It performs as advertised and all the elements function as advertised.I was initially somewhat cautious, but I have seen these compasses before. My order was filled or registered quickly, and it was shipped without delay. It arrived as described and I was able to use it almost immediately.I have no negative comments at all. Every aspect of my order from advertised expectation to delivery to using the compass has met all my expectations.
