Newly-Improved Wood-Gas Stove At $ 75 = O.K., BUT CAN GET IT FOR $ 60, OR A SIMILAR TYPE FOR $ 25 +/- $ 8 POT-MESH!
Wild Wood Gas Stove Mk 2(T)IMPORTANTLY, YOU CAN GET THE SAME PRODUCT FOR $ 60.00 FROM ANOTHER SITE ON AMAZON, SO IF YOU OPT TO BUY THIS STOVE, DON'T WASTE $ 15.00 BY BUYING IT FROM THIS SITE!! HENCE, THE 'RIP-OFF' VENDORS 'NOT HELPFUL' VOTE FOR THIS REVIEW! DON'T BUY PRODUCTS FROM THIS VENDOR! Wild Woodgas Stove Positives:A) This stove is still completely made of stainless steel so that it will never rust and the walls are sufficiently thick to never bend/warp under the maximum heat,B) There have been improvements in the pot-bearing design of this stove to avoid the previous reliance on metal welding. As such, narrow pots or even mugs can now supported by a series on very clever folding stainless steel wires. These have been designed so that even very narrow mugs (i.e. the new wave of very light-weight minimalist cooking items such as the very narrow titanium mugs and bottles such as made my Vargo, can be used on this stove.e.g. Vargo BOT Bottle Pot C) This stove is very efficient at re-burning the wood gas generated from wood via a series of holes in the base and near the top of the stove (thus, air enters from the base to the top via its double walled construction). This, allows the stove to generate very high flames (see photos and videos).D) The stove can be very efficiently used with an alcohol stove since as a Trangia spirit stove but it is best to invert the central (wood-holding tray) to elevate the alcohol stove near the top to avoid the sooty flames being created when the stove is lower. Alternatively, you can add 10% water to the pure alcohol to reduce the soot in the flame.Negatives:A) The wood sticks/cubes can only be added via the top (not from side as in many other wood-burning stoves (e.g. bushboxes, fireboxes and Emberlits) which is annoying to always have to remove the pot to add more fuel (wood or alcohol if you opt to use an alcohol (spirit) burner.B) This stove is expensive (plus shipping = $ 75.00) due to being made in and being shipped from the UK. Thus, you really have to ask yourself do the minor improvements in the pot support justify this Mk II(T) version being OVER 3 TIMES MORE EXPENSIVE that an earlier model made in the USA (see $ 25.00 docooler stove below)?By contrast, here is a similar stove (looks a bit like a precusor edition) without the subsequently altered small pot/mug holding ability of the above stove, and which cost a more reasonable $ 25.00:N.B.: THIS STOVE ONLY COSTS $ 24.00 With $ 1.00 SHIPPING!!: docooler Portable Stainless Steel Lightweight Wood Stove Solidified Alcohol Stove Outdoor Cooking Picnic BBQ Camping YOU CAN ALSO GET THE VERY SIMILAR STOVE TO THE DECOOLER FROM QUNQI/QUNGI FOR $ 26.00 FROM AMAZON! Qunqi Stainless steel Wood Burning Backpacking Stove Outdoor Survival Camping Carbon Hunting Emergency Preparation Camping Stove IMPORTANTLY:IF YOU REALLY WANT TO COOK IN A VERY SMALL BOTTLE, POT OR MUG THEN YOU COULD BUY THIS DOCOOLER STOVE AND PLACE A PIECE OF STAINLESS STEEL MESH (SEE PRODUCT LINK BELOW OR BUY A SUITABLE MESH FROM A HARDWARE STORE) ON THE THREE POT SUPPORTING PRONGS, WHICH SHOULD THEN COST A TOTAL OF APPROXIMATELY $ 33.00!!E.G. 6 INCHES X 6 INCHES MESH (5.45 MM HOLE SIZE: STAINLESS STEEL WIRE DIAMETER 0.71 MM: APPROXIMATELY $ 8.00 FOR PRODUCT AND SHIPPING) Stainless Steel Woven Wire Mesh 15cm x 15cm, 11 hole sizes / Mesh count / Aperture size. (4 Mesh) N.B. SOME OTHER SIMILAR MODELS OF THE WOOD-GAS STOVES are also available from Amazon at a cost of $ 50.00 to 70.00: Schön - Burning Backpacking Stove Ultra Light Weight Compact Design - Strong, Solid Gasifier Twig Stove, Camping, Hunting & Emergency Preparation. SilverFire Scout Backpack Bug Out Bag Gasifier Twig Stove C) This Wildwood gas stove is annoyingly NOT provided with a mesh draw-string bag, as are the others, considering its high price. The one I obtained, instead, came in a small cardboard box!COMMENT: I sometimes remove the lower (circular unit with multiple air-intakes) region of the stove and DO NOT see any really noticable difference in the performance of the stove and, therefore, I really wonder how necessary the lower air-intake is for the wood-gas re-burning! It however still produces the high flames with or without the lower air intakes, so its great efficiency must be (at least partly) due to another reason (e.g. air still getting in underneath)!Alternatively, readers may wish to look at the wide range of 'normal' (non-wood-gas) backpacking/camping wood burning stoves made by Vargo (Hexagon stove), Fire Box and Bush Box stoves. In conclusion, while I really like this stove with its improvements in the pot stand which are very strong and can support small cooking pots/mugs, as stated by the manufacturers, I do not believe that they can justify the VERY HIGH (> 3 TIMES THE) PRICE OF one previous model FROM THE USA, and therefore I must rate it as a 3 star product (i.e. it's O.K.).The author declares that No Conflicts of Interest Exist in the review of this product or any other product mentioned in this review.
