US Veteran Review
I’m a US vet who retired abroad to the Dominican Republic. I found this book insightful and useful exploring a lot of financial considerations I haven’t given enough thought to. I especially enjoyed the personal stories as I can relate from being an expat myself. The healthcare portion is useful for anyone thinking about moving abroad.

This Information Isn't Just Useful - These Days, It's Vital
It's 2019, and it's clear that something's off, especially if you live in the western world. Our taxes seem too high, our health care system is broken, and our hours at the day job seem to creep up and up as more demands are made. What's going on? This book explains it all, and what you can do about it. By opening our eyes a little bit and turning our attention to a more global scale, we can gain access to a huge range of opportunities and experiences for ourselves - both financial and personal. This book gives you plenty of ideas to get you thinking if you're serious about becoming a prosperous citizen of the world.I'd also strongly recommend the author's podcast, The Expat Money Show. There, he and his guests have fascinating discussions about the expat lifestyle, business, finances, and the state of the world today.I have learned so much from Mikkel, both from this book and his podcast. I cannot categorize this information as merely useful and interesting - it's vital. The world is changing fast, accelerated by technology, and so many opportunities have opened up. Read this book and educate yourself!

Interesting topic wrapped badly.
The topic of this book is very interesting, and the authors are not stingy about sharing information (although only slightly).Unfortunately this book is not printed properly. Book fonts, layouts and paper look cheap.

Practical, concise, and easy to follow advice.
As with all of Mikkel's content, this book is rich with up-to-date and pertinent information for those who are interested in doing business, visiting, or possibly setting up residence outside their home country. I appreciate MIkkel's unique perspective of having done business in and lived in multiple countries, and how he presents his knowledge and experience in a way that applies to anyone, from any country. The book is packed full of superb information presented in a personal and very easy to read format. I have read it twice now, and give Expat Secrets my highest endorsement. This is a great reference and I will continue to use it for many years to come. Thanks Mikkel for your work, I feel that it is a very unique source!

Very disappointing!
This book is very very light on actual information, which is fine, but it doesn't live up to it's name or how it's being presented.I suspect the Author is trying to use this as a way to recruit people to his other websites or podcasts where the real information is. Which is disappointing because when I pay for a book I am looking for actionable information. It also appears from reading the 5 star reviewers on here they appear to be his clients and friends. If you read the glowing 5 star reviews I have to wonder if they read the same book I did!I kept reading it looking for where the "Expat Secrets" were and frankly there's just nothing of substance. All it does is tell you some very broad concepts of living overseas and benefits (such as taxes, healthcare) which aren't much of a secret at all.If you're looking for an instructional guide on how to relocate overseas, this isn't the book.

A Must Read for Anyone Interested in Living the Laptop Lifestyle and Being an Expat
Living abroad as an expat has a certain romance to it. Let's face it, the idea of living in a beautiful, exotic locale while being able to delve into the culture there sounds really attractive.Fortunately, with the advantages of technology and communication that we now have, many people are opting to live the "laptop lifestyle," living abroad while running their businesses. I know some of these folks -- they move around at will or choose a country like Columbia in which to make their base. But the question that has always nagged me is this: Is it really as simple as packing your bags and hopping on a plane? What do you really need to know about the country you're moving to? What about taxes, cost of living, currency fluctuations and investing? The good news is that Expat Secrets gives you all that and more! The author, Thorup, has lived abroad for decades and leverages his many years of experience in this book - so you can benefit too. He holds back nothing (from what I can tell) and gives you what you need to know in an upfront style without all the fluff and padding found in so many other books. The book is divided into 14 distinct chapters that will take you from where you are now, to a more international lifestyle. If taxes are your main concern, Expat Secrets can help you go from paying high taxes to being tax-free (assuming you are able to make the necessary adjustments). If you're looking to diversify your income from one currency to multiple currencies, you'll learn how to do that too.So, if you don't know anything about global diversification -- you'll know as much as Jason Bourne by the end of the book! No, you won't learn how to get fake passports - but you'll be equipped to do things the legitimate way so you can live comfortably and not have to worry about being tied to a single country or currency in regard to your wealth. That sounds pretty cool to me.Pick up a copy of this book, it's well worth it and you'll learn a lot.

Great read
Great informative and concise read for anyone truly considering internationalizing their life! The way the information was broken down makes this very large and intimidating subject easy, practical, digestible, easy to implement and less intimidating. I now know that it is very possible to move abroad and start a new life.

Leading edge thinking
I found the book easy to understand and practical advice. I have met a number of people living their lives as expats and am always amazed how relaxed they are in their lifestyle and many included children in their families. I believe some of the bonus features like the podcasts will keep the information up to date and flexible. Keep up the good work.

Essential information for a tyrannical age
I stumbled over this book via Doug Casey's newsletter - a happy accident if ever there was one. Not all of this book is relevant to my situation, and that may be true for others, but what there is is vital. I was able to find the answer to a problem that I had been agonising over for some weeks, which I'm immensely grateful for. We all need to take steps to protect ourselves from the traumatic times to come, so buy a copy for your sake, and that of your family.

Wow, this book was amazing. 5 Stars ✨
Personally I’m not an Expat yet, but for anyone who wants to be a globetrotter, “which Is what I want”, then this is the book to read.Taxes are a worry for any entrepreneur out there and with the help of this Expat Secrets, Mikkel Thorup explains how you can avoid the most extreme taxes, from paying the least amount of them depending where you are in the world, to which are the best passports to own.He goes into great depth on setting up an offshore companies, owning overseas investments and how your money can work for you.“Having a diversified portfolio gives you multiple points of stability so that you’re able to minimize any market risk that you would otherwise have to bear through losses.”He talks about how to invest in Gold, Silver, Real Estate, Cryptocurrencies, bonds and how to secure your personal information, investments and how to store it when you travel to new locations...I’m not a heavy reader, but this is one book I couldn’t put down.Five Stars ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
