To Catch A Thief / The Bridges At Toko-ri (Original Soundtrack)

This is a collector's item: not to be missed by certain collectors, if not of widespread interest. Lyn Murray's music deserves wider recognition: he had a gift for melody and an innate sense of matching musical mood to images that great film composers and born with. About half the tracks for "The Bridges at Toko-Ri" are source cues: jukebox arrangements of pop hits of the 40s, such as "Down By the River" (Rodgers and Hart) and "Hit the Road to Dreamland" (Arlen and Mercer). The spare balance of the music, Murray's own, is by turns lovely and adventurous. Total running time: 13:42. The real attraction is the rare soundtrack for "To Catch a Thief," one of Hitchcok's bubbliest comedies. Most of the cues that I remember from the movie are here, including some I don't remember or were so softly underplayed beneath dialogue that they didn't register. There are two bonus tracks: "Francie's Theme" (1:36) and a vocal version of "Your Kiss" (crooned by Bob Graham; 3:49), whose melody is covered by solo trumpet in the film's climactic gala. Total running time: 47:50. With altogether 77:25 minutes of rare and classic film music, remastered from well preserved source elements, plus informative liner notes by Jim Lochner, this CD is well worth the price. Probably it's a limited pressing; when it's OP, expect the price to double or triple. Bravo, Intrada!

The soudtrack is good. What I liked the least is that it is in mono sound.

If you were one of those who loved the movies "To Catch a Thief" and "The Bridges at Toko-Ri" and loved the music to them, this CD is for you. Both scores were composed and conducted by little known composer Lyn Murray and needless to say these two scores were his greatest works. Thanks to the good folks at Intrada who released them on CD. The sounds is terrific and the packaging is good. This is a must have for film music fans.
